Our Favorite Locations
The most common question we get asked when it comes to outdoor sessions is, “Where should we take our photos?” To make the decision easier, we’ve created this guide featuring our favorite tried-and-true locations. We’ve carefully selected each spot for its easy parking, minimal foot traffic, low bug activity (because no one wants to be swatting mosquitoes mid-session), and, of course, beautiful natural backdrops that complement our photography style.
Adler Park, Libertyville (dense beautiful wood)
This location is a favorite for family sessions - the trees line up beautifully, creating a natural frame that photographs wonderfully with the way that we shoot. The colors here really pop, especially during golden hour. Parking is easy and convenient, and while bugs are usually minimal, we still recommend bringing bug spray for evening shoots!
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO SHOOT HERE: Year round, but the absolute best during the fall (mid-October to mid-November is peak fall color time).
Elawa Farm, Lake Forest (floral, sweeping landscapes)
This spot truly comes alive in the summer when the flowers are in full bloom. It’s an epic location that provides a stunning backdrop for senior portraits, family sessions, and couples. While it’s still pretty once the flowers fade, it doesn’t have quite the same magic. For this location to really shine, we recommend scheduling your session when greenery around town is lush and vibrant. This is a popular location for photographers, so don’t be surprised if you see others shooting here too. Fortunately, the area is large with plenty of hidden corners and scenic spots, so it’s easy to find space that feels private and quiet for your session.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO SHOOT HERE: Summer when the flowers are blooming through to the end of September.
Captain Daniel Wright Woods, Mettawa (green vibe)
This is a pretty park that is never crowded with people. Parking is easy and there is lots of green here.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO SHOOT HERE: Spring, summer, fall
Downtown Long Grove (urban vibe)
This location is one of our top picks for senior/graduation sessions. The downtown area features a mix of beautiful buildings that create the perfect urban backdrop, while a nearby park with a charming bridge adds a touch of nature - all within walking distance. Since many of the storefronts are no longer open, it tends to be quiet and private, making it an ideal place to shoot without distractions.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO SHOOT HERE: Year round
Fort Sheridan (beach + field)
This location has a small beach that is easy to get to as well as a wide open field. Perfect for couples and senior sessions. I don’t usually recommend this spot for families.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO SHOOT HERE: Spring, Summer, Fall
Downtown Libertyville (urban vibe)
This location is a good spot for senior/graduation sessions - especially for Libertyville High School grads! The variety of building textures throughout downtown creates an urban feel that photographs beautifully. Keep in mind, there’s typically a good amount of foot traffic in the area, so we recommend this location for seniors who are confident and comfortable in more public settings.
BEST TIME OF YEAR TO SHOOT HERE: Year round
Independence Grove, Libertyville (pretty park feel, bridge, open field)
This is a well-loved location among locals, which means it’s often busy - so it’s not always our first recommendation. That said, it is a beautiful place with plenty of great spots for photos. The native garden blooms with pretty flowers in the summer, but it’s often booked for weddings on weekends, so keep that in mind when planning your session.
On the backside of the park, there’s a charming bridge that leads to an open field - perfect for senior portraits or couples. Because this bridge is a favorite among photographers, don’t be surprised if we’re not the only ones there during your session.

ADLER PARK, LIBERTYVILLE
Adler Park Libertyville - since you are going a mid-october session, the colors will probably be beautiful there at this time. This location will give you a very fall vibe.
Downtown Long Grove - this has a fun urban feel with the buildings but also
